The auditorium of the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi, was in the night of Sunday, January 4, 2015 gutted by fire which destroyed some property worth millions of Naira in the hall.
Some eyewitnesses told Metro that “several fire extinguishers were exhausted to manage the situation” which would have consumed the entire college.
An anonymous eyewitness opined that the fire outbreak was as a result of   “I don’t care attitude of management”.

He added that the fire disaster would not have occurred if the authorities of the school had put “some simple right things in place.”
He said, “The school management was fully aware of the electrical faults in the auditorium, but did not take adequate measures to ensure proper maintenance. “
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Tse Vanger, stated that the major cause of the inferno could be attributed to electrical surge.
