Woman, 45, Hits Boyfriend, 55, With Hammer Because He Refused To Marry Her

A woman had allegedly assaulted her 55-year-old boyfriend by hitting him with a hammer because he refused to marry her.

The victim called the attention of the police to the scene of the incident around 11 AM on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 1200 block of West Second Street North in Kansas, United States.

On investigation, the police officers were told that the 45-year-old woman whose identity was not mentioned had been highly provoked because he refused to marry her.

 World Weird News reported that she pulled a hammer and hit her unnamed boyfriend’s knee and also destroyed his coffee table before fleeing from the scene.

She has since been at large and police are making efforts to bring her to book.

229 Nigerians Deported From Various Countries For Drug Related Offences

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), had on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 disclosed that about 229 Nigerians were deported from various countries in 2014 for offences bordering on drug trafficking.

The head of  media and publicity of the agency, Mitchel Ofoyeju, who made this disclosure added that arrests by the agency at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, in the past two years increased by 16.22 per cent while drug seizures decreased by 33.68 per cent.

Ofoyeju further disclosed that the agency’s commander at the MMIA,Mr Hamza Umar, in 2013 as  apprehended 93 drug suspects with 878.81kg of narcotics according to New Telegraph.

However, the figures increased in 2014 as 129 suspects which included 118 males and 11 females were arrested for drug trafficking  with 436.065kg of drug seizures.

Cholera Kills 20 Persons, 171 Fresh Cases Reported In Rivers

About 20 persons have been reported dead following a recent outbreak of Cholera disease which started on Monday, January 5, 2015 in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers state.

A statement by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, revealed further that about 171 cases had been reported in some communities in the council.

The commissioner said the council’s rapid response team and the state emergency response team had all risen to the task, adding that two treatment centres had been opened in the area.

He said, “The state emergency response team and the social mobilization team are already on ground to assess and manage the situation.

“Two treatment centres have already been established at Ebukuma and Okoli’ile to manage cases and affected people are advised to assess the facilities.”

The commissioner stated that proactive measures are being employed in order to curb further outbreak of the water-borne disease in the state.

41 Boko Haram Members Killed As Military Repel Invasion Of Biu

About 41 members of extremist sect, Boko Haram were on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 killed after they had tried to overrun the largest town in Southern Borno State, Biu, which is 300 kilometers from the state capital, Maiduguri.

Seven insurgents sustained injuries and were captured by the soldiers. An Armoured Personnel Carrier was also recovered from the terrorists.

A residence of the town, Dauda Yusuf stated that “Sporadic shootings made many of us shiver this morning as the military engaged the members of Boko Haram in fierce battle. From all indications and given the severity of the fight, the insurgents perhaps wanted to add the town to the list of their captured territories.”

A unnamed senior military official who spoke in Maiduguri said the gallant soldiers withstood the attack as they expecting the insurgents.

He added that the number of casualties could not be ascertained as the soldiers were still combing the town.

Funeral Beer Poisoning: Death Toll Rises To 72

Health authorities in Mozambique on Tuesday, January 13, 2014 revealed that three more persons had died from drinking traditional beer  believed to have been contaminated with crocodile bile.

This brings the death toll to a total of  72 as the hospitalized victims drops from 196 to 35.

The director of health, women and social welfare in the northeastern Tete province, Paula Bernardo, told radio Mozambique that about seven people are still in critical condition in hospitals in the Chitima district.

Dozens of people had over the weekend reportedly consumed the local beer prepared from from millet and corn flour and locally referred to as “Pombe” in Chitima and in the neighboring Songo district at a funeral ceremony.

US Central Command Twitter Account Hacked By ISIS

The US Central Command’s official Twitter account (@CENTCOM) was on Monday, January 12, 2015 hacked by individuals claiming to the the Islamic State (IS) terror group.

A tweet from the hacked account read: “ISIS is already here, we are in your PCs, in each military base. With Allah’s permission we are in CENTCOM now.”

The account also tweeted images of spreadsheets with contained the home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of a number of current and former army generals.

Another tweet read: “AMERICAN SOLDIERS, WE ARE COMING WATCH YOUR BACK.”

The images posted by the hackers were taken of the twitter feed, just before the account was suspended said Monday, January 12, 2015

White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest has downplayed the hacking. He said: “There is a pretty significant difference between what is a large data breach and the hacking of a Twitter account. We’re still examining and investigating the extent of this incident. But I don’t have any information beyond that.”

A young girl of 17 years of age identified as Ada Nba Agbazue, had fallen from an abandoned 18 storey building in Abule-Ajanloco, Lagos, while trying to escape rape from one of her Facebook friends whom she identified simply as Michael.

The victim who was lured to the abandoned building on Friday, December 26, 2014 by a man she met on Facebook social platform disclosed that the intentions of her attacker was to rape her and subsequently murder her for rituals, according to National Mirror.

APC Supporters Reportedly Burn Down PDP Building In Gombe

The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of destroying several property belonging to the PDP in Gona Village of Akko Local Government Area on Sunday, January 11, 2015.

This comes barely two days after Goodluck Jonathan and his vice, Namadi Sambo. 

Premium Times reports that one Mijinyawa Ahmed, a resident of the town availed that a convoy of the APC gubernatorial candidate, Inuwa Yahya, started the violence which saw two PDP vehicles, the PDP office and other shops burnt down.

Ahmed said: “The APC candidate was on his way to Billiri town for a rally and his convoy suddenly stopped in the town and some of the youth in the convoy began to destroy the billboards of Governor Dankwambo and other PDP property.”

Junaidu Abubakar, the spokesperson to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, confirmed the incident. He said:“In their quest to destroy the billboards of the governor and burn PDP office, peoples shops were also burnt down completely

“Many people began running into the bush thinking that Boko haram are attacking them,” he added.

Hoodlums Attack House Of Reps Member In Rivers, Kill His Driver And Steal N1.3 Million

A member of the Rivers State House of Representatives, Hon. Gogo Bright, was attacked by some hoodlums who made away with N1.3 Million and killed his driver, Hon Hope George, who was also a former councillor in Okrika Local Government Area,  in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital.

The Rivers state commissioner for Police, Mr. Dan Bature, disclosed this occurrence on Sunday, January 11, 2015 during a press briefing with some journalists after he visited Bright who is the member representing Okrika/Ogu/Bolo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

He explained that hoodlums followed Bright who was with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Okrika Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Datorudimabo Adams, and his driver from a bank in the capital city where he had gone to withdraw the money.

The unknown assailants eventually stopped the lawmaker and disappeared with the money.

The police boss disclosed that the command has swung into full investigation to bring the culprits to book while maintaining that the attack had nothing to do with politics.

Although the Rivers state PDP had on Saturday insisted that the attack on its members, including the killing of Friday Mbadee Onura at Eleme were carried out by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), acting on the instructions of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Dakuku Peterside,Leadership reports.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega has come out to say that the permanent voter cards (PVCs) to be used for next month’s election can be cloned, but such cloning will amount to nothing as the commission’s machines will not be able to read them.

He made the revelation while conducting an interview with an Abuja-based magazine, Metropole and comes just days after the Department of State Services (DSS) raided an All Progressives Congress (APC) office, alleging that the party had plans to clone the PVCs and hack into INEC's database.  

Jega said: “DSS did not say INEC reported. DSS are in the business of intelligence gathering and security and evidently through their own sources had something to make them act the way that they did. We did not report it. We didn’t ask them to do it and we didn’t know anything like that was happening.

3 Arrested For Mass-Purchasing PVC In Niger State

Three individuals have been rounded up over allegations of mass purchasing of permanent voter cards (PVCs) frm prospective voters in Niger State.

Leadership reports that the three suspects were arrested in Kalgara Rafi local government area in possession of PVC’s, allegedly purchased from villagers. The men who were arrested over the weekend have been linked to one of the leading political parties and were buying the cards for between N10,000 and N20,000.

An unnamed sourcs further revealed : “For instance at Kutriko in Agaie local government area of the state, there are allegations about a candidate of a political party who threatened to confiscate the PVCs of the people who were not ready to support his party, and freely allow those identified to be his supporters to collect their cards.”

The three men have been transferred to Niger State Police Criminal Investigation department for thorough investigation.

FGGC Student Arrested With Grenades In School, Father Arrested Too In Taraba

A female student of Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Jalingo, Taraba State as well as her father were on Monday, January 5, 2015 arrested in their bid to gain entrance into the school premises with a bag loaded with two military hand explosives.

Luck ran out on the unidentified suspect when the security agents at the gate searched her bag and discovered the explosives stacked inside.

According to Leadership, the suspect who is an SSS 1 student of the school and her father reportedly hailed from the Numan area of Adamawa State.

It was gathered that the attention of the Taraba police command was called to the scene which was promptly followed by the arraignment of the duo.

Confirming the incident, the Taraba Police Spokesman, ASP Joseph Kwaji stated that the suspect and her father are currently under custody of the police.

NAN- The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has identified about 128 unaccompanied children in various Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Adamawa.

The Head of NEMA Special Ad-Hoc Committee on IDPs in Adamawa, Alhaji Sa’ad Bello, said this in an interview with newsmen in Yola on Tuesday.
