NYSC |
The National Youth Service Corps has signed a memorandum of Understanding with the Bank of Industry to provide loans to corps members.
Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawumi, disclosed this on Wednesday when the Commandant of the Guards Brigade, Brig. Gen. Anthony Omozoje, paid him a courtesy call in Abuja.
He said the loan would assist beneficiaries of skills acquisition programme of the corps to set up theirbusinesses after training.
“It is one thing to give them skills, if they don’t have money to set up, it is useless,” he said.
Omozoje said the visit was to strengthen existing relations between the brigade and the directorate.
Olawumi recalled that the NYSC was formed in 1973 after the civil war to promote integration and national unity.
He, however, admitted that there were challenges of unemployment and insecurity facing Nigeria today.
While identifying unemployment as a catalyst for insecurity in the nation, he said the directorate was concerned about how to reposition the scheme to address unemployment by training graduates on skill acquisition, “such that rather than be job seekers we can turn them to job creators.”
