Steven Archibong Effiong Ukoh
World football governing body, FIFA, have cleared a former Switzerland U20 international Steven Archibong Effiong Ukoh to represent Nigeria at full international level. The Nigeria Football Federation told the media on Thursday.
The player described as a versatile midfielder was born on 19th June, 1991 to Nigerian parents in Berne, Switzerland, and currently plays for Biel-Bienne FC in the European country.
Ukoh represented Switzerland at the U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels between 2006 and 2010, but had a change of mind thereafter and opted to wear the green-white-green colours of Nigeria at the senior international level.
His father, Archibong Effiong Ukoh, and mother Helene hail from Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
“By the decision of a single judge of the FIFA Players’ Status Committee on 4th December, 2014, Steven Ukoh was cleared to switch his nationality from Switzerland to Nigeria,” the NFF said.
The young player may get a quick turn with the Eagles as the NFF has secured Cote d’Ivoire and Mali friendlies for the Super Eagles.
The Nigerian senior football team will confront the two teams in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in January next year.
The Super Eagles will confront 1992 African champions Cote d’Ivoire whom they edged 2-1 in the quarter finalsin South Africa, on January 9, and take on fellow Eagles of Mali, who were overhauled 4-1 by the Nigerians in the semi finals in South Africa, four days later.
