Rampaging cow injures four

Scene of the incidentFOUR persons escaped death after a cow attacked them along the U. D. Filling Station Road area of the East-West Road in Port Harcourt.

It was learnt that the aggressive cow escaped from its owners on Tuesday before attacking the four persons.
The animal had temporarily halted construction work on the East-West Road as  workers took to their heels to avoid the domestic animal.

One of the victims, Mr. Ogonnaya Okereke, said the cow slammed at them (victims) and used its horns to inflict serious wounds on them.
While Okereke sustained injury on his right leg, another passerby, who remained speechless after his encounter with the cow, had a torn muscle on his left hand.
It took the efforts of two young men to control the aggressive cow, tie it with a rope, before youths in the area pounced on it.
Okereke told PUNCH Metro that he was on his way to visit his children in the school when he was attacked by the cow.
He explained that nobody came to his rescue when the cow began to pursue him and slammed him on the ground.
“I was going to check my children in the school, when I saw the cow coming towards me. I called whoever was in charge of the cow to control it, but nobody came.
“The cow came after me. As I was about to cross to the other road, it increased its speed. The cow lifted me up with its horns and slammed me on the ground. I sustained serious injuries. My shirt has been torn,” Okereke added.
However, the appeal by the owner of the cow, Mr. Noah Salubi, who came to the scene an hour later that his cow be released to him, was rebuffed by the angry youths.
They insisted that Salubi must pay the medical bills of fours person that were injured.
Salubi said, “We bought the cow and took it to our garden.  This morning, as we were preparing to kill it, the cow escaped.
“The cow stopped at this area and injured some people. I am pleading that they should allow us take the cow away. The injured persons should follow me to Wazobia Slaughter so that we can address this issue there.”
Two out of the four injured persons had already been rushed to the hospital before PUNCH Metro got to the scene of the incident.
