Court jails teenager for stabbing school head boy

A Mararaba Senior Magistrates’ Court, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday sentenced a student, Abdullahi Hussaini, 17, to nine months imprisonment for stabbing his school’s head boy with a broken bottle.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Jeremiah Danladi, gave the judgement after the accused, a student of the New Era Pilot Science School, Rugar Juli, Mararaba, had pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Danladi, however, gave him an option of N5,000 fine in addition to seven strokes of the cane.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Okoro, had earlier told the court that one Shuaibu Danjuma of the same address, reported the case to Sani Abacha Road Police Station, Mararaba, on March 19.
Okoro said Husaini was confronted by the head boy for coming late to school on the day.
“In the process, he stabbed him on his head with a broken bottle, which resulted to serious injury.
“During investigation, the broken bottle was recovered and the accused confessed to the crime,” he said.
The prosecutor said the head-boy was immediately taken to the Fountain Head Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was treated and discharged.
The offence is punishable under the penal code.
