David Moyes |
United didn't know what hit them as they struggled right from kick-off to lay their foothold in the game.
A sleek range of passes ensured that David Silva waltzed through their defence undetected and the intial clearance fell to Samir Nasri whose shot bounced off the post, but Edin Dzeko was right on hand to score the opener in just under 44 seconds.
Most of the United players failed to step up the gear, with Wayne Rooney once again the only shining light for his team.
David Moyes looked bereft of ideas, with his team played off the park by a far more superior Manuel Pellegrini's team.
Dzeko could have made it two nil before half-time,forcing David De Gea to a smart one handed save.
But there was no denying the Bosnian as he scored from a corner kick in the second half to take the game to 2-0. Yaya Tourecontinued his impressive form from midfield, scoring the third and final goal in stoppage time to put the final nail on United's coffin.
The win pushed City up to second position, just three points off Chelsea with games in hand.
Meanwhile Arsenal could not capitalise on their home game to erase the memory of Saturday's drubbing at Chelsea as they played out a 2-2 draw at the Emirates against visiting Swansea City.
Arsenal trailed for the greater part of the game to a Wilfried Bony's header in the 11th minute, but two goals in quick succession by Lukas Poldoski and Olivier Giroud in the second half looked like it would have won it for them.
However a Mathieu Flamini's own goal in added time denied the Gunners all three points at home.
