An 18-seater bus conveying travellers from Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, had reportedly plunged into a river in Akwa Ibom which drowned at least eleven passengers including a mother and her two female children.
Confirming the incident in Uyo on Friday, November 28, 2014 the Akwa Ibom State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Ramalan Yerima, said the vehicle involved was a 18-seater bus belonging to a Port Harcourt-based transport company named To And Fro adding that there were 13 passengers in the bus before the tragedy.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, was adamant on Wednesday, refusing to recognise the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, as the speaker.
The IG simply addressed him as “Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal”, a title that angered members of the House Committee on Police Affairs.
Abba insisted that it would be “subjudice” for him to address Tambuwal as speaker or any matter relating to him so long as such a matter was in court.

CORRUPTION as a recurring factor in Nigeria again came under focus on Wednesday with former President Olusegun Obasanjo rapping the President Goodluck Jonathan administration and theNational Assembly for promoting corruption and poor governance.
“For quite some time, the covered and hushed-up corruption has had its toll on the economy,” Obasanjo said.
He said the increasing corruption under Jonathan had damaged the economy, warning that “in the future, we will have a budget that cannot be funded.”

Indications emerged yesterday that members of the House of Representatives are on the same page with their Senate counterparts in their bid to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan.
It was reliably gathered that the assemblymen would start impeachment process against the President immediately it reconvenes next Wednesday.
This is just as the lawmakers coordinating the impeachment process have disclosed that they have identified over 50 constitutional violations against the President, which would form part of the impeachment notice.

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday bowed to pressure by devaluing the naira from N155 to N168 to the US dollar.
The MPC tightened the apex bank’s monetary policy by allowing some flexibilities in the exchange rate to stem speculative activities and depletion of reserves.
The announcement was made by the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, while briefing journalists shortly after the MPC meeting at the bank’s headquarters in Abuja.
The bank also increased the Monetary Policy Rate from 12 per cent to 13 per cent.
The MPR is the anchor rate at which the CBN, in performing its role as lender of lastresort, lends to Deposit Money Banks to boost liquidity in the banking system.

The police in Lagos are battling to unravel the killers of a former director of the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Oluremi Jaiyesimi.
The 63-year-old was found dead in herhouse in the Abraham Adesanya Estate, Ajah area of the state.
Metro News exclusively gathered from sources that the corpse of the former Director of Social Welfare in the Ministry of Youths and Social Development was not discovered until a week after she died.
By then, her body was said to have been decomposing with maggots emanating from the corpse.
Our correspondent learnt that a neighbour, who was suspicious that something was amiss after the former director was not seen for days, alerted a relation in the Surulere area of the state.

Armed bandits in Guinea have stolen a batch of blood samples infected with the deadly Ebola virus which were being delivered to a test centre.
The robbers held up a minibus near the town of Kissidougou which was transporting the samples from central Kankan prefecture to the test site 165 miles away in southern Gueckedou.
The blood was stored in a sealed container and was being escorted by four Red Cross officials. It is believed the bandits had no idea what it was they were stealing and may have thought there was cash hidden inside the container.
